Coffee and Athletic Performance

It isn't any shock that the caffeine in coffee can aid in sports performance.
Most people think it's just a little boost of energy and that's it.
But coffee does more than that. 
If you believe in the aid of pre-workout mixes.  You will understand that it's not just a "boost" you bought it for.
Coffee is a better aid in my opinion. Why? Natural. No additives. No artificial flavors.
Here are a few benefits of coffee to aid in your performance:
  • Supports High-intensity and Endurance training
  • Aids to recover quickly from activity
  • reduces pain
  • exhaustion is delayed
Scientific evidence has shown support that the benefits are seen in many different types of sports from running to skiing to weightlifting, with moderate consumption of coffee.  That amounts to about 2-3 cups (200-300 mg of caffeine).
Caffeine to boost performance
While caffeine gives a great boost, it does have another side.
Caffeine increases the production of adrenalin to improve blood flow.  At the same time, it blocks adenosine receptors.  These receptors being blocked elevates fatigue and exertion, which is how it leads to better performance.
Studies also found that caffeine, the foe to the adenosine receptor, can reduce pain. This is a similar effect when you take NSAIDs *(acetaminophen aka Tylenol) to reduce pain with activity. 
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reported a credible “cause and effect relationship” had been established between the consumption of caffeine and an increase in endurance performance. Also, research has seen promising effects of coffee on short high-intensity activities.
More studies are following this to show that drinking coffee is better for you than sports supplements or any energy pill.
(Note: if you do take supplements, just know what is in them.  Not all "healthy" labeled things are good for your body).
Do you know what coffee contains besides caffeine?
Ever heard of polyphenols? I know it sounds like a chemical, but that is the scientific word to describe the organic compounds found in coffee beans.  Just remember that some "science" words are not bad.  Many natural foods we eat contain these, for example, spinach.
Polyphenols have the ability to reduce inflammation.  With that skill, it can aid in recovery time so you can go 100% in your training and bounce back quicker.
Polyphenols have different groups with them that one is called chlorogenic acids.
Chlorogenic acids are more apparent in lighter roasted coffee as the roasting process depletes them.
Chlorogenic acids have been linked to over health improvements including reducing inflammation. 
Antioxidants are also found in coffee due to the organic compound structures being connected to Polyphenols and chlorogenic acids.  They all contribute to lower inflammation in the body.
Why is reducing inflammation important?
Athletes not only look to boost performance with added energy, but they need recovery as well. Studies have been done to suggest that moderate consumption of coffee can improve recovery.
Between how our body digests food, the activities we do, and just surviving our day, inflammation seems to be ever-present in your life. Finding any way to decrease it is better for your overall well-being. 
Being an athlete or just improving your health; a topic I am sure you have talked or thought about.
An injury is always inevitable, whether it's from a workout or just an accident in your daily routine.
Reducing inflammation allows room for the body to repair.  In doctor offices, there has been a pill form of chlorogenic acids called 5-CQA to help accelerate the healing process by lowering the inflammation responses and increasing antioxidants defense systems.
